Information in english
Monday, 26 October marks the start of Emergency Preparedness Week 2026. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness about personal preparedness and encourage residents to take responsibility for their own safety. When more people are prepared to handle crises, our society becomes more resilient as well.
This year, there is a particular focus on how we can cope with a prolonged disruption of electronic communications, such as mobile networks and the internet. At the same time, the main message remains the same as in previous years: Everyone should be prepared to manage on their own for at least one week if a crisis occurs.
Personal Preparedness
Norwegian authorities recommend that as many people as possible maintain a level of personal preparedness that enables them to manage for at least seven days without assistance from public services.
To be well prepared, you should have a plan for:
- Food and water
- Heating and lighting
- Medicines and hygiene supplies
- Access to information
On the DSB (Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection) website, you can find advice and guidance on personal preparedness, including a checklist of items you should have available at home:

Information Points
In the event of a prolonged disruption to electronic communications (mobile phones, the internet, and similar services), the municipality’s emergency management team will assess whether municipal information points should be established.
An information point is a location where the municipality can provide information to residents.
At an information point, you can:
- Receive information about the local situation
- Receive information about municipal services
- Provide important information to the municipality
An information point is NOT:
- A place where food or drinking water is distributed
- A shelter or accommodation facility
- A place where you can charge electronic devices or access the internet
- A place where you can receive medical treatment. However, the fire stations in Oltedal and Gilja have personnel trained in emergency first aid.
